Dubai Police share safety guidelines to handle tyre burst while driving

The extreme summer heat in the UAE increases the risk of accidents for drivers. With temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, flat tires and tire bursts are common during this time.

Tires can burst for various reasons, including heat pressure, overloading, damage, improper inflation, and the age and quality of the tire.

How, then, should motorists handle a tyre burst while driving?

Dubai Police have issued safety tips and guidelines that motorists should do in case their tyres burst while driving: These are:

-Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel.

-Apply brakes gradually to avoid swerving.

-Lift your foot off the accelerator gradually.

-Check for clear road conditions on your right, then steer your vehicle towards the roadside.

-Gradually reduce your speed by lightly applying the brakes until you come to a full stop.

-Turn on the emergency lights.

It is important to note that, aside from heat pressure causing tire blowouts, tires can also fail due to a lack of regular checks. This makes a full vehicle check-up especially important during the summer. To encourage this, Dubai Police is offering free car inspections until the end of August. Private car owners can take advantage of this service at AutoPro centers across the UAE.

Additionally, Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists about the risk of tire bursts, following 22 traffic accidents recorded in 2023. They also highlighted six items that are prone to catching fire if left in a car during the hot months.
