RTA introduces new routes to improve Dubai Metro efficiency

Starting Saturday, August 3, there will be separate Dubai Metro trips for Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange Metro stations. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced this change on Friday in a post on X.

This new arrangement means that passengers heading to the UAE Exchange or Expo 2020 Metro Station on the Red Line must ensure they board the correct train to reach their destination.

Display screens at Metro stations will indicate each train’s route, so commuters are urged to double-check the information before boarding.

In April, RTA revealed plans for the Dubai Metro Red Line to operate a Y junction, which connects three railways, eliminating the need for passengers to change trains at Jabal Ali station.

This development means that commuters traveling between Centrepoint and UAE Exchange will no longer need to switch trains at Jabal Ali Interchange Station, making their journey more seamless.

Furthermore, in June, the Dubai Executive Council announced plans to add more stations to the Dubai Metro over the next few years.

The expansion aims to increase the number of currently operating stations from 64 over 84 square kilometers to 96 stations over 140 square kilometers by 2030. By 2040, the plan is to cover 140 stations over 228 square kilometers.

The expansion of the Dubai Metro is part of a broader strategy to increase the share of public transport across the emirate to 45 percent.

This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita and enhance the efficiency and convenience of sustainable transport, according to the RTA.

These developments signify Dubai’s commitment to improving its public transport infrastructure, making it more accessible and environmentally friendly for residents and visitors alike.
