Faisal Kapadia, renowned for his role in the legendary band Strings, recently shared nostalgic moments from his early career on After Hours with Ushna Shah. As he embarks on his solo journey with a debut album, Kapadia recalled his first live performance, describing it as a nerve-wracking experience.

During the show, host Ushna Shah asked, “Singing your songs for the first time you performed live on stage in front of an audience, what was that feeling like? Do you remember that?” Kapadia responded, “A big crowd was there, so big that I would say Strings ran through our show. It was in Islamabad, the first concert, in July 1990. And due to nervousness, my voice gave out.”

He reminisced about the surprise encounter with late musician Junaid Jamshed, saying, “Then Junaid just shows up at a sound check, and I was like, ‘Wow.’ And he said, ‘You know, I have heard your music, and you guys are great.’ Junaid’s presence was a big relief.”

Kapadia also reflected on his shared musical journey with Jamshed. “Junaid was my classical music listening partner,” he said, noting their connection through their teacher, Ustaad Chahat Hussain Khan Sahib. Strings, formed in Karachi in 1988, continues to be celebrated for its impact on the music industry.
