UAE Driving License Now Recognized in 52 Countries

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has simplified the process for obtaining and renewing driving licenses, providing multiple application submission options. These include the RTA’s official website, driving schools, and customer happiness centers for countries not supported by the online application system.

Driving license renewals can be conveniently processed through various platforms, including the RTA website, smart applications, self-service kiosks, trusted agents, and the Mahboob automated speaker feature. By offering multiple access points, the RTA aims to improve customer convenience and efficiency in license-related transactions.

Highlighting international recognition, the RTA emphasized agreements that allow the use of UAE driving licenses in all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and 47 other nations worldwide. However, the issuance of driving licenses in Dubai strictly follows Federal Traffic Law No. 21 of 1995, requiring adherence to specific criteria.

Prospective license holders must meet rigorous requirements, including medical fitness verification, meeting the legal age criteria for the desired license category, and successfully passing driving exams according to regulatory guidelines. Additionally, non-citizens must have a valid residence permit in Dubai to be eligible for a license.

The RTA has adopted technological advancements to streamline the license issuance process, offering digital services across its platforms. By utilizing modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and geographical location systems, the authority aims to enhance efficiency and reduce processing times, ultimately benefiting customers by saving time and effort.

Smart technologies are also integrated into the driver training and testing processes. The RTA has automated theoretical knowledge exams for trainees, covering essential topics related to traffic safety and driving systems. Additionally, a smart driver examination system, Al Saha, has been developed to streamline road tests using advanced digital technologies.

For applicants under 21 years of age, the RTA follows strict protocols in line with traffic law regulations. These individuals must complete all necessary courses, training sessions, theoretical tests, and road examinations before being eligible for a driver’s license. The issued license is valid for one year and can be renewed upon expiration.

The RTA’s comprehensive approach to driving license issuance underscores its commitment to efficiency, accessibility, and safety.
