Another PTI leader Junaid Akbar resigns from core body

LAHORE: Following the resignation of Omar Ayub from his position as General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PTI leader Junaid Akbar resigned from the party’s core committee on Friday. In his statement, the PTI Member of National Assembly (MNA) criticized the leadership, declaring that he does not belong to any faction and never will.

Without naming anyone, he accused certain individuals of pursuing personal interests and exploiting the party for their gain. He lamented his lack of authority in decision-making and his inability to access PTI founder Imran Khan. “These individuals meet Imran Khan and they don’t let us meet him,” he added.

Akbar further stated that he is only informed of the party’s policies and decisions, and that the leadership is unwilling to consider his concerns. He announced his intention to launch a movement for accountability alongside party workers.

Junaid Akbar’s resignation followed a day after PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan stepped down from his party positions. Ayub, who also serves as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, submitted his resignation on June 22, which was accepted by founding chairman Imran Khan. In his resignation, Ayub stated that he could not continue as the party’s secretary general while fulfilling his role as opposition leader in the National Assembly. He also mentioned his plan to step down as chairman of PTI’s Central Finance Board but affirmed his commitment to remain a party worker.
