T20 World Cup 2024: Cricket Ireland complains to ICC regarding treatment of team

  • Cricket Ireland complained to ICC about poor treatment.
  • The hotel was 90 minutes away from the stadium.
  • Ireland lost all matches in the tournament.

Cricket Ireland has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the treatment of their men’s team during their stint in New York, USA, for a couple of T20 World Cup 2024 matches.

The team, led by Paul Stirling, competed in two games at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, unfortunately losing both.

The grievance highlighted by Cricket Ireland pertains to the subpar hotel accommodations provided for their squad.

Initially slated to reside near the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, the Irish team’s accommodations were unexpectedly relocated to Brooklyn from Long Island, a mere fortnight before the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2024.

This last-minute change placed the team a considerable 90-minute commute from the stadium. In contrast, India, one of Ireland’s competitors, was conveniently situated close to the stadium in Long Island.

The logistical challenges prompted by the distant Brooklyn hotel led to the cancellation of at least one Irish training session. The team even considered scrapping a pre-match press conference due to the lengthy travel required for a player to meet media obligations from Brooklyn to Long Island.

Ultimately, Ireland’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 concluded prematurely, as they were unable to secure a victory in any of their matches, suffering defeats to Pakistan, the USA, and Canada, with their match against India being abandoned due to rain.
