The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for Karachi today. The city currently experiences partly cloudy skies, coupled with warm and humid conditions.

According to the PMD’s weather report, Karachi’s temperature stands at 32 degrees Celsius, with morning humidity reaching 70%.

The heat index makes it feel as hot as 41 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature is expected to peak at 37 degrees Celsius today.

Earlier PMD forecasts had alerted Karachi residents and others in Sindh to brace for potential thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning as the monsoon season kicks off today, July 8.

The influence of monsoon winds is expected to bring widespread rainfall across various regions, including Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Dadu, and Jacobabad.

In light of the monsoon predictions, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a high-level committee to manage potential emergencies.

During a review meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of proactive measures to address possible flood situations, pledging personal oversight of the emergency response.

PM Shehbaz underscored the need for disseminating advanced monsoon forecasts through national broadcasts, especially to assist farmers.

He assured full government support during emergencies and called for prompt assistance to affected areas.

All relevant institutions have been instructed to maintain heightened readiness, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) directed to work closely with provincial governments and other agencies.

As Karachi prepares for the onset of the monsoon season, residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

The PMD’s forecast serves as a crucial reminder of the city’s vulnerability to weather changes and the importance of preparedness in mitigating potential impacts.
