Karachi Traffic Police announces alternative route for Chehlum procession

KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police have announced alternative routes as part of its traffic diversion plan for the Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in the city tomorrow (Monday). The main procession will start from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, following its traditional route. As a security measure, MA Jinnah Road will be closed to both small and large vehicles from Guru Mandir to Tower.

Only vehicles with a special sticker on their windscreen, allowing them to join the procession, will be permitted on MA Jinnah Road. These vehicles can access the procession through the Society Light Signal on Sharea Quaideen, according to a report by The News on Sunday.

The Sindh government, to prevent any untoward incidents, has also imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province, including Karachi.

Here’s an overview of alternative routes that citizens can use for a smoother commute:

District Central:

  • Travelers from Nazimabad can reach their destination via Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road through Garden.
  • Those coming from Liaquatabad can turn from Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk and head left towards Central Jail (Martin Road).
  • Commuters from Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi can take Kashmir Road to Society Light Signal (Sharea Quaideen) and from Jail Chowrangi Flyover to Teen Hatti to Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

District East:

  • Citizens heading towards Naumaish from Sharea Faisal to Sharea Quaideen can use the right side of the Society Light Signal via Kashmir Road.
  • Those traveling from the Central Jail gate (Jamshed Road) towards Gurumandir on MA Jinnah Road can take Guru Mandir to Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazaar.

District South:

  • People traveling from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can pass from Anklesaria to Gul Plaza on the right, and then continue past the coast guards and Holy Family Hospital to reach their destination.
  • Heavy and commercial traffic from Super Highway, Gulberg to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2 via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur.
  • Heavy and commercial traffic entering the city via the National Highway can use Sharea Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur.
