TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Roots earnings

Clothing retailer Roots Corp. is scheduled to release its first-quarter financial results and hold a conference call with investors and financial analysts on Monday. The report comes after the company earned a fourth-quarter profit of $14.6 million, up from $13 million a year earlier, as its total sales edged down nearly three per cent.

Dollarama results

Dollarama Inc. will release its first-quarter results and hold its annual meeting of shareholders on Wednesday. The company has benefited as shoppers looking to stretch their budget have turned to the retailer in search of deals.

Bank of Canada

Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem will take part in a panel at the Conference of Montreal on Wednesday and deputy governor Sharon Kozicki will give a speech to the Canadian Association for Business Economics in Ottawa on Thursday. The events come a week after the central bank cut its key interest rate target by a quarter of a percentage point to 4.75 per cent.

Household debt figures

Statistics Canada is scheduled to release its national balance sheet and financial flow accounts figures for the first quarter on Thursday. The report will include the much-watched household-debt-to-income figure, which measures how much Canadians owe relative to their income.

Economic data

The picture of how the Canadian economy began the second quarter will become a little clearer this week with a pair of key economy data points. Statistics Canada will release its monthly survey of manufacturing and wholesale trade figures for April on Friday.
