Watermelon is our favorite fruit, and when it’s in season, we love to enjoy it in a variety of ways – from watermelon salsa to our favorite fruit skewers. I spent my childhood summers loving the watermelon patch on my grandparents’ farm, and this sweet watermelon juice brings back so many fun memories!

The girls love ordering watermelon juice at one of our favorite local restaurants, Katie’s Pizza and Pasta! A few years ago I decided to try it at home – and it is unbelievably quick and easy! I like to garnish with a sprig of fresh mint from the garden, which adds just a hint of summer flavor.

Choose a Juicy Watermelon

Selecting a good watermelon can be a bit of an art, but here are some tips to help you pick the perfect one:
  1. Look for a creamy yellow spot: Find the side of the watermelon with a creamy yellow spot. If the spot is white or green, it might have been picked too soon and won’t be as sweet.
  2. Inspect the surface: The watermelon’s skin should be firm, smooth, and free from bruises, cuts, or dents. Also, look for any signs of mold or soft spots.
  3. Pick it up: A ripe watermelon should feel heavy for its size. Lift a few watermelons of similar size to compare weights.
  4. Tap it: Gently tap the watermelon with your knuckles. You should hear a deep, hollow sound. If the sound is dull or flat, it might be underripe.
  5. Check the stem: Look for a dried stem on the end opposite the creamy yellow spot. If it’s green, the watermelon might have been picked prematurely.
