Weather experts are predicting an above-average monsoon season for southern Sindh, including the bustling metropolis of Karachi. The forecast suggests that early July will usher in “more than usual” monsoon rains, attributed to a medium-level pressure system forming over the Arabian Sea around June 30.
The onset of this year’s monsoon season is slated for June 27 and July 4 nationwide. However, specific emphasis is placed on Karachi and its neighboring areas in southern Sindh, anticipating higher-than-average rainfall during this period. While these predictions are subject to change, residents are advised to gear up for potentially wetter conditions than usual.
In a recent update from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), it was highlighted that most plains in Pakistan would continue to experience scorching and dry weather during the daytime. However, regions like northeast Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar area, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may witness gusty winds and isolated rain-thunderstorms, especially in the evenings or at night.
Specifically for Karachi, the PMD’s observations indicate that while hot and humid weather will persist in the coming 24 hours, there’s a possibility of drizzles in certain areas late Wednesday night. As the city braces for the imminent monsoon season, residents are urged to stay vigilant with weather updates and take necessary precautions to cope with the expected heavy rainfall.
