Heavy rain and gusty winds expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, parts of Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more monsoon rains and strong winds in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various parts of Pakistan starting Sunday night and continuing through Monday and Tuesday, with breaks in between.

These rains are due to monsoon currents coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, along with a westerly weather system affecting northern regions. As a result, the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as areas in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, can expect intermittent rain and gusty winds.

Heavy rainfall is especially likely in northeastern and southern Balochistan, Karachi, parts of Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern and southern Punjab, and Kashmir. This could lead to flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in areas like Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Barkhan, and several others. Urban flooding might occur in low-lying areas of cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, among others. Landslides could also disrupt traffic in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In terms of temperatures, Islamabad is expected to have a maximum of 31-33°C on Monday and 32-34°C on Tuesday. Rawalpindi will likely see temperatures between 32-34°C on both days.

Over the past 24 hours, several areas in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan have already experienced rain, with some places seeing heavy downpours.
